The defending Super Bowl champions have promoted senior assistant and QBs coach Matt Nagy to the role,

which he previously held from 2016 to 2017.

Nagy rejoined the Chiefs in 2022 after a four-year stint as head coach of the Chicago Bears,

during which he achieved a 34-31 record and two playoff appearances,

before being fired after a disappointing 6-11 record in 2022.

Nagy has a long-standing relationship with head coach Andy Reid,

During Nagy's previous tenure as Chiefs offensive coordinator,

when Alex Smith was the starter, the team won back-to-back AFC West titles and had a record of 22-10. In his second year as offensive coordinator,

the team finished in the top six for both points scored and yards gained for the first time since 2005,

and has maintained that level of success for the past five seasons.

However, Nagy has never been the full offensive coordinator to Patrick Mahomes over a full season with Mahomes as a starter,

although the two did work together briefly in 2017 when Mahomes wasn't the starter.

It remains to be seen whether Nagy can continue the success of the Chiefs' offense under Bieniemy.
